The Cultural Center

The Cultural Center or Gelanggang Seni, located opposite to Hotel Perdana is a place where Kelantan's rich cultural heritage may be witness. One can enjoy the cultural performances and traditional games and pastimes handed down through generations, such as the mak yong, wayang kulit and main puteri take center stage. Watch the giant kites flying peacefully in azure sky, see the tops spinning frantically for hours and listen to the rich resonance of the rebana ubi.

 

 

 

Royal Museum/Istana Batu

Designed and built in 1939 during the reign of Sultan Ismail, Istana Batu was used as a venue for royal weddings as well as to house royal guest. Today, it has been converted into the Royal Museum where an excellent regalia and collection of palace items belonging to former Sultans are on display.

 

Museum of Traditional and Customs

Another place of interest is Museum of Traditional and Customs that displays its intricate woodcarving testimony to the superb craftsmanship of Kelantanese. The museum was once a former palace, Istana Jabar, built in 1887. The museum has an excellent artifacts and exhibits on Kelantan's rich cultural heritage.

 

 

 

Handicraft Village and Craft Museum

Kelantan's exquisite range of handicrafts - silverware, songket, batik and woodcarvings are exhibited and for sale as well. These handicrafts make good souvenirs for international tourists. The price is cheap and the handicrafts are uniquely distinguished.

If you are looking for bargain souvenirs, step into these 3 stories shopping complex for a wide selection of goods. Stocked with miniature souvenirs, knick-knacks and clothing, bargaining is part of the excitement.

 

 

 

 

New Central Market

Kelantan's Central Market is a riot of color. The place of attraction where the stallholders, majority of them are Kelantanese women, conduct their business amidst rows of chilies, carrots, seafood and farm produce. Perhaps this is a throwback to the fact that Kelantan was once ruled by a princess called Cik Siti Wan Kembang. Kelantanese women remain fiercely entrepreneurial and known to be hard bargainers.
